COTEAU – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mr. Serving Charles Romero, age 74, at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. Fr. Barry Crochet will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm with the Rosary at 6:30 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Wednesday from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
A native and lifelong resident of Coteau, Mr. Romero passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Iberia Medical Center, with his family at his side.
“Savan” or “Nonc” as he was affectionately known, served in the National Guard and worked as a mechanic for Jack Brooks Implement. He was a retired DOTD Bridge Tender, a canner for Bruces’s Foods in Coteau, a Sheriff Deputy under both Sheriff Wattigny and Louis Ackal, and owned and operated his own plumbing business.
He was a native of Coteau where he resided until his death. He enjoyed raising and fighting roosters and cattle, and listening and dancing to French music. But he loved his children and grandchildren the most. They were his whole world.
He is survived by his children, Gary Romero (Elizabeth Joseph) and Bonnie Woods (Michael Woods); his grandchildren, Megan and Brittney Woods and Jarred, Brent, and Kimberli; ten great grandchildren; his former wife, Dorothy Adams Romero; numerous niece and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; many friends, and one special adopted like grandson, Lahr Badger.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lastie and Inez Reaux Romero; and sister, Lucy Romero Sisk.
Pallbearers will be Gary Romero, Michael Woods, Lee Sisk, Lahr Badger, Henry Romero and Danny Evans. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl and Felton Romero.
The family would like to thank his caregivers for all their loving care and compassion during his last days on this earth. Special thanks to Dr. Rinaldi, Dr. Ramsey, Iberia Medical Center, Concept of Home Care, Danny Evans, Lee Sisk, Richaline Sisk, Matt Castille and Londa Morales.
