NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Joseph Menard, the former Marie Thelma Stoute, age 86, at 2:00 pm on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Fr. Alexander Albert officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum.
Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Monday from 9:00 am until 1:45 pm with a rosary being recited at 11:00 am by the Men’s Rosary Group.
A native of Erath and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Menard passed away on June 8, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Marie was born on August 10, 1930 to the late Eli and Theola Toups Stoute and was one of four children. She was owner and operator of Menards Grocery in New Iberia with her late husband, Joseph Alvin Menard, from 1957-1981. Together, they also ran Menards House of Lights. Granny, as she was called by many, loved to crochet, knit, and work on puzzles. She also had a passion for making jewelry and Christmas ornaments and had a nice collection of dolls. Marie was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her children, Judy M. Seaux and husband Dennis, Gerald J. Menard and wife Emaz “Pye”, Terry J. Menard and wife Marie M., and Darryl J. Menard and wife Deidra all of New Iberia; one brother, Vories Stoute and wife Delores of Erath; ten grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-four years, Joseph Alvin Menard; parents, Eli and Theola Toups Stoute; and two brothers, Weston Stoute and Dalton “Pie” Stoute.
Pallbearers will be Jason Menard, Ryan Menard, Tad Menard, Brayten Maynard, Evan Mire, and Michael Stoute.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of St. Joseph Hospice and the sitters who sat with Mrs. Menard for their caring and kindness during these difficult times.
