NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Lester John Lopez, age 79, at 12:00 pm on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Melancon officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Thursday from 8:30 am until 11:45 am with the Men’s Rosary Group reciting a rosary at 10:00 am.
Born in New Iberia on March 29, 1938 to the late Cleus and Omelia LeBlanc Lopez, Mr. Lopez passed away on August 27, 2017 at Iberia Medical Center. He was a resident of New Iberia.
Lester loved hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. He was a very kind, compassionate, and family oriented man. Lester was a jack of all trades and enjoyed fixing things. He could always fix anything that was broken and make it work. He will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Cynthia Babineaux Lopez; daughters, Angela L. Thibodeaux and husband Arthur, Jr. of New Iberia, Yvonne L. Hebert and husband Gregg of Rynella, Christine L. Duplantis of New Iberia, and Melanie L. Judice and husband David of Loreauville; brother, Bob Allen Lopez and wife Trudy of Breaux Bridge; sisters, Mary Copell and husband Wayne of New Iberia and Anna Mae Blanchard of FL; grandchildren, Marie T. Miller, Jodi Thibodeaux, Arthur Thibodeaux, III., Wyatt Hebert, Lee Hebert, Franny Hebert, Jessica Hebert, Victoria Duplantis, C.J. Graves, Jr., Anjelle Graves, and Lacey Graves; and great grandchildren, Kami, Kaiden, Grayson, Noah, Mason, Arianne, and Harper.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Cleus and Omelia LeBlanc Lopez; sisters, Verla Marusak, Una Maxwell, and Alicia Bayard; brother, Preston Lopez; and son-in-law, Larry Duplantis.
Pallbearers will be Wyatt Hebert, Lee Hebert, C.J. Graves, Jr., Arthur Thibodeaux, III, Gregg Hebert, Arthur Thibodeaux, Jr., David Judice, and Dylan Bertrand.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Vernon Trahan, Matthew Babineaux, and Michael Miller.
