NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for John Anthony Bayard, age 68, at 10:30 am on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home in New Iberia on Monday from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm with a Rosary being prayed at 6:00 pm. The funeral home will re-open on Tuesday at 8:00 am until the service time.
A native and resident of New Iberia, John passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Iberia Medical Center with his loving wife, Nanette, by his side.
John was a kind and fun-loving man who enjoyed the simple things in life. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being in nature. He could often be found in Butte La Rose hunting for deer with his buddy, Raymond “Block” Girouard, who help John to hunt over the past two years or fishing at Toledo Bend with Bruce and Shirley Broca. John also enjoyed tending to his rabbits. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and loved his granddaughters very much. John will be truly and deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Nanette Guillot Bayard; daughter, Laura Bayard; son, Cecil John Bayard (Sarah); sisters, Katherine Broussard (Keith Sr.), Sherry B. Champagne (Karl), and Marjorie “Nikki” B. Poirrier (Mark); and grandchildren, Scarlett Bayard, Alexandria Broussard, and Elizabeth Knudsen.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Baron Sr. and Alicia Lopez Bayard; and brother, Baron “Bud” Bayard, Jr.
Pallbearers will be David Guillot, Rolland Guillot, John Guillot, Raymond Girouard, Bruce Broca, Keith Broussard, Jr., Mark Poirrier, and Ryan Guillot.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Raymond ”Block” Girouard and Bruce and Shirley Broca for helping John to continue doing the things he enjoyed. And also, a special thanks to IMC ER and staff, Dr. O’Brien, Dr. Body, and to all the ICU staff for the care given to John.
