Jim was born February 8, 1948 in New Iberia to the late Leonce and Gernice Bonin. After his graduation from High School, Jim enlisted into the United States Navy and proudly served his country as a Medic on the USS Hamner during the Vietnam War.
In life, Jim lived a somewhat quiet existence, spending 33 years as a truck driver traveling throughout the United State with the open road and nature scenes to keep him company. Outside of that, he enjoyed casting a line whenever he had the time. Haili spoke of her grandfather Jim, and recalled how much he loved his great grandchildren, spoiling them with love.
We will miss him dearly and will hold his memory in our hearts and thoughts forever. Rest well Jim. We love you.
Those left to cherish his memory are his granddaughter, Haili Bonin (Fernando); his great grandchildren, Ever Alejandro Bonin and Sophia Marie Camacho Bonin; his only brother, Ernest Bonin (Eileen); his niece and nephew, Trisha Piro (Kevin) and Ross Bonin; and his dear friend, Lanie Bourque.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Scott Bonin; and his former wife, Mary Renard.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Thursday, October 26 from 8:30 am, with the Rosary being prayed at 10:00 am, until 10:45 am dismissal to Memorial Park Cemetery, where the Iberia Veterans Honor Guard will honor Jim with Military Honors. He will be laid to rest alongside his parents.
