NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for Mrs. Daniel J. Dugas, the former Genevieve Broussard, age 88, at 10:00 am Monday, March 14, 2016 at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Interment will follow at Nativity of Our Lady Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Sunday. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Sunday by the Knights of Columbus Council #12997. The funeral home will reopen at 8:00 am on Monday until service time.
Genevieve was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was born on February 16, 1928 to Albeo and Rena Dugas Broussard in Iberia Parish. She was reunited with Jesus, her husband, parents and other loved ones on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the age of 88. She was a caregiver to all, she enjoyed riding on Sundays, flea markets, cooking for her family, playing with her grandchildren and visiting with neighbors and friends. In earlier days she with her family owned and operated a country store located at the Daspit Bridge where she welcomed all in the area. Later, she worked in the scale house at Cajun Cooperative where she was always interested in the sugar cane crop and everyone in the farming community. Her final years were spent at Belle Teche Nursing Home where she continued to care for those around her.
Genevieve is survived by her two sons, Nathan Dugas and wife Janis and Thomas Dugas and wife Anne all of New Iberia; five grandchildren, Kimberly D. Segura and husband Jarrod; Jarrod Dugas and wife Shelly; Jade Dugas; Desiree D. Firmin and husband Brad and Ryan Dugas and eight great grandchildren, Blaire Rene Clark; Daniel Paul Segura; Mary-Catherine Segura; Kori Bulliard; Riley Mae Dugas, Charlie Rae Dugas, Jackson Firmin and Cannon Firmin. She is also survived by one brother, Robert Broussard and wife Thelma of New Iberia
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Joseph Dugas; her parents, Albeo and Rena Dugas Broussard and one great granddaughter, Brianna Nicole Dugas.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Dugas, Thomas Dugas, Jarrod Dugas, Jade Dugas, Ryan Dugas and Robert Broussard.
The family wishes to thank Belle Teche Nursing Home and Hospice Compassus and all their dedicated staff for the wonderful care they provided to Genevieve.
