NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Elenore Moss Mestayer, age 76, at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Fr. Thomas Habetz will be the celebrant and conduct the mass. Interment will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 6:30 pm. Visiting hours will resume on Thursday from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
Elenore Moss Mestayer was born in New Iberia on December 8, 1937 to the late Theophile O. Moss and Laurence Babaz Moss, and passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Iberia Medical Center.
Mrs. Mestayer was a 1959 graduate of SLI (now ULL) and received her BA in education. She has spent over 21 years as a dedicated Teacher, 11 of those years at New Iberia High, and 10 years at Catholic High School. Elenore also studied dancing from the age of 5 for a span of 16 years, and began teaching dance to the younger students in the latter part of her studies.
Elenore and Jim were members of a monthly supper club and enjoyed many great meals. She was also a member of Fortnightly 7, and played Bridge in a local Bridge Club. But it was the time spent with her family, especially her daughter and grandchildren that meant most to her. She leaves behind many fond memories that will forever be cherished by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Sidney James “Jim” Mestayer of New Iberia; her daughter, Valerie Mestayer Landry and husband Dr. Adrian P. Landry of Baton Rouge; her grandchildren, Emma Grace Landry, Adrian Paul Landry, Jr., and Mary Ayres Landry all of Baton Rouge; and her sisters, Elizabeth “Liz” Segura and husband Ronnie of New Iberia, Frances Morel and husband Tommy of Plano, TX, and Diane “DeDe” Van Hulle and husband Roger of Round Rock, TX.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother T.O. “Sonny” Moss, Jr.
