He was born on January 6, 1924 in Youngsville, LA to the late Elie Joseph and the late Lodo Marie Simon.
Earl was a retired insurance salesman for over 35 years with Evangeline Life Insurance Company of New Iberia. He and his wife, Nellie, also managed and operated the Echo Drive Inn for many years. He loved to fish, hunt, maintain his lawn, and train hunting dogs. Most people knew Earl as the “one-armed man” who had determination and let nothing in life stop him just because of a disability. Earl was also known quite well in the St. Martinville area as “The Shrimp Man”, due to the fact that he sold shrimp in the area for over 20 years.
Earl is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, best friend, and one and only love, Nellie Grace Simon of New Iberia; his children, Kenneth Lynn Simon and wife Theresa, Ricky Joseph Simon, and Norma Dean Babineaux and husband Kirby; step-daughter, Gerry Muzny; siblings, Leopold Simon, Luther Simon and wife Catherine, and Merline Coleman; grandchildren, Kenzi Simon, Kali Simon Vincent, Todd Landry, Gregg Muzny, Tammy Melancon, and Ronnie Simon; great-grandchildren, Nick Melancon, Logan Melancon, Connor Melancon, Cameron Landry, Ridge Landry, Caiden Landry, Justin Simon, Jordan Simon, Megan Muzny Holcomb, and Brittney Nicole Boland-Holub; and great-great-grandchildren, Jordan Holcomb, Kayson Holub, and Khole Holub.
Earl is preceded in death by his son, Ronald James Simon, Sr.; parents, Elie Joseph and Lodo Marie Simon; sister, Gladys Guillotte; brother, Lawless Simon; and grandson, Jake Simon.
