Autrey Paul Delahoussaye, our loving father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully August 2, 2023 at Consolata Home of New Iberia. At his passing he was 86. He is now in his eternal glory and knows only peace, with no more pain or sorrow.
Autrey, affectionately known by family and friends as “Fluff”, was born in rural Iberia Parish near Jefferson Island to the late Clomere Delahoussaye and the late Ouida Bourque Mire. He worked in the oilfield until he could no longer work.
Fluff always took advantage of his days and enjoyed many pastimes. For the few times he spent inside, he watched westerns and wrestling (and it was real no matter what you thought). His daughters spoke of his love of baseball and how he supported them and his grandson when they played the sport. He also played baseball and umpired at games through the years. A laugh was shared when they spoke of how he threw out many players as an ump, but was also thrown out of games himself. But it was always in good fun. Outside of baseball, Fluff loved being outdoors. He took care of his yard and grew a garden, with tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers and peppers growing plentiful for the family to share. He spent time with his girls fishing, up until the “big one” got away and snapped his fishing pole in two. It was that day that he gave up fishing.
But it can be easily said that his greatest love was his family. From the evenings dancing with Sylvia at Smileys, to the pranks and jokes he played on his daughters and their families, those are the times and memories that will live on forever. We can be sad of his passing, but we can also rejoice in knowing that he is no longer with pain. Rest well daddy, for we will one day be reunited. We love you.
Those left to cherish his memory are his four daughters, Sharon Delahoussaye Migues (Chris), Lisa Delahoussaye, Sandra Delahoussaye Jackson (Lyle) and Vicki Steinocher (Kenny); his grandchildren whom he adored, Brandon Saintes (Ashley), Amber Bonin Isham (Matthew), Jamie Migues, Jade Jackson Gravis (Nathan), Cody Jackson; his grand dogs, Luna Belle and Skyla Blue Steinocher; and his great grandchildren, Marlie Muffoletto, Jameson Saintes and Juniper Sage Gravis.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sylvia Magee Delahoussaye; and his brothers and sisters, Bernard Delahoussaye, Roy Delahoussaye, Gladys Babin and Beatrice Duhon.
A Catholic service celebrating Fluff’s life will be held at 8:30 am Saturday, August 5 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Rev. David Furka, Parochial Vicar of St. Peter Catholic Church, will officiate. Following the service, Autrey will be laid to rest with his wife at Memorial Park Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Friday from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with the Men’s Rosary Group leading the Rosary at 6:00 pm. Visiting will resume on Saturday from 7:00 am until 8:00 am dismissal.
