NEW IBERIA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Mrs. Alice Derise Guillotte, age 73, at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Fr. Mark Derise will be the celebrant and conduct the Mass. Gift bearers will her daughters, Pauline, Cindy and Deena. Interment will follow in Beau Pre Memorial Park Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Monday at Evangeline Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 10:00 pm, with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 pm. The funeral home will reopen on Tuesday from 8:00 am until 9:30 am.
Alice was born January 2, 1939 in Jeanerette to Amos and Pauline Sonnier Derise, Sr., and passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 13, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.
As a homemaker, she enjoyed sewing, baking and crafts. She was a Girl Scout Leader for many years, volunteered at Iberia Parish Schools helping children with reading, and coached her girls in softball. But it was her family that was her greatest love. She cherished the times spent with them, especially during the holidays when she would prepare a meal for all to enjoy. She leaves behind many fond memories that will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Irvin J. Guillotte, Sr. of New Iberia; Irvin Guillotte, Jr. and companion JoAnn Bailey of Lafayette, Pauline Myers and husband Lonnie Myers, Sr. of Jeanerette, Cindy Guillotte and husband Tommy Guillotte, Jerome Guillotte, Sr. and wife Joannie Guillotte, Kevin Guillotte and companion of Lisa Broussard, and Deena Guillotte Bourque all of New Iberia; twenty grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and her sister, Cecile Mildred Boutte of New Iberia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos Derise, Sr. and Pauline Sonnier Derise; a grandson, Jerome “JJ” Guillotte, Sr.; son-in-law, Dwayne Myers; her in-laws, Sidney and Vivian Guillotte; two brothers, Leroy Champagne and Amos Derise, Jr., and a brother-in-law, Daniel Guillotte.
Serving as pallbearers will be Irvin, Jerome, Kevin, Devin and Christopher Guillotte, and Courtney Pellerin. Honorary pallbearers will be Irvin “P-Nut” Guillotte, III, Lonnie Myers, Jr., Eric Myers, Sidney Guillotte, Shea Guillotte, and Shawn Landry.
