Employed by Grain Belt Brewery, Minneapolis (1942-1975) and Robbinsdale School District (1975 - 1988). The eighth of 11 children born to Polish immigrants, he took pride in his heritage, family, and working class background. He served in the Navy during WWII and was present in Tokyo Bay on September 2 1945 at the signing of surrender terms of the Allied Nations by Japan. Following his service, he married his childhood sweetheart, Roseann. He never took life for granted and expected to work hard for what he had. He was a regional and national cribbage champion, and throughout his life enjoyed playing cards and fishing. He delighted in his garden and birds. He supported the Minnesota Gophers and was a Minnesota Vikings fanatic. Emil loved to talk to people, joke and laugh. He always found a way to enjoy life and smile despite the challenges he sometimes faced.
His children wish to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. David Walcher, Southdale Internal Medicine, who provided exceptional service, care and support to their father, and to them, for well over ten years and through Emil's final stages of Lewy body dementia. Thank you to the multitude of care staff at North Ridge, New Hope, over the past three years, and to the 2NW staff at North Memorial Hospital who made his final days of life as comfortable as possible.
