Edward Jerome Schutter was born on January 4, 1942 in Alma, Kansas and passed into eternal glory on May 2, 2018 in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Alfretta; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Mary Helen) Schutter, Dale Schutter, Joseph (Shirley) Schutter, Michael Schutter, brother-in-law Derald Metzger, mother-in-law Eleanor Jensen and nephew Mark Schutter. Ed is survived by his wife, Eileen; children Scott (Janice) Schutter, Susan (Dan) Lindstrom; Grandchildren, Ryan and Claire Schutter, Eleanor and Spencer Lindstrom; father-in-law, Nels Jensen; siblings, Donna Metzger, Barney (Kami) Schutter and Phillip (Louise) Schutter; brother-in-law, Marlin (Donna) Jensen and many nieces and nephews and friends.
Ed called Alma home until he left for the seminary in Kansas City, MO. After a few months Ed decided to return home to Alma to finish high school. After school Ed joined the Navy and served from 1960 to 1962 and would often reference his Navy days anytime he had to stand in line or was on a boat. After the Navy, Ed worked for Frontier Airlines in Lawton, Oklahoma before moving to Minnesota in 1970 to live with his brother Mike. A short time later his brothers Phillip and Barney joined them in Minnesota and many good times were had by the Schutter boys. Eventually Ed met the love of his life, Eileen Jensen from Garner, Iowa. Ed and Eileen were married on November 11, 1972 and then settled in New Hope, Minnesota. Ed was a wonderful father to Scott and Susan. Ed would often take the kids fishing, golfing, family trips to Hermann, MO for the Grape Stomp and to Iowa and Kansas to visit family and friends.
For almost 40 years Ed worked at Mammoth Industries on commercial heating and air conditioning units. He worked in many capacities including working in the shop bending sheet metal, shipping, and CNC programming before he retired. In retirement Ed volunteered at the NEAR food shelf in Crystal, enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, golfing as much as he could and the Florida sunshine when he stayed with his sister Donna during the winter months. His time in Florida was also such a special time for him because it provided opportunities to spend time with his siblings and their spouses, friends and extended family.
Ed was a long time member of St. Joseph’s Parish Community and was part of the very special Renew group who remained friends for the past 28 years. Ed also enjoyed lots of time at the ball field playing softball, hunting, bowling and participating in Knights of Columbus events and of course golf… so much golf.
For the past 13 years Ed has been a very proud Grandpa to Ryan (13), Claire (10), Eleanor (6) and Spencer (4). He was the best snuggler and baby rocker, car ramp builder, and gingerbread houses maker although he tried to eat the candy decorations. Ed could often be spotted at school programs and sporting events where everyone knew him. He will be missed greatly but we know he will be cheering from above.
The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers of the past few months when Ed became ill and especially those in Florida who helped care for Ed until we could get him back to Minnesota a few weeks ago.
