Mr. Pete Larsen died peacefully in his home in Valley Cottage, NY on July 19. He was 89 years old. Mr. Larsen passed away from complications of a rare lung disease.
Pete was born in the Bronx, NY November 16, 1932 to his parents, Olaf and Selina (nee Flanagan) Larsen. Pete was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, who proudly served 4 years for his country. A few years after returning home, Pete met and soon after married the love of his life, Nancy (nee Neumann) on November 26, 1960.
Pete was honored to be one of New York’s Finest, serving as a Bronx Police Officer of 25 years. Upon retirement, as was his personality, Pete was not yet finished helping others and contributing. Pete then spent 11 years working for the U.S. Postal Service during his retirement years. He loved to tinker around the house, often wearing his ‘work pants’ just in case his unique handyman skills were required.
He was a joyful and happy man. His smile literally lit up a room. He loved to tell stories, some factual and others that were humorous antidotes embellished for his listening audience. His greatest strength was finding ways to make others smile.
During his life, Pete proudly served his country, the City of New York and the community of Valley Cottage. Yet, above all, he cherished time with his loving family. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with their beloved family by their sides in 2020.
Mr. Larsen’s passing was preceded by the loss of his beloved wife, Nancy who passed away on July 29, 2021. Pete is survived by his two loving sons, Peter Jr. (wife Adele) and Gregory Larsen, and his three grandchildren, Peter III (wife Alexandria), Donald and Nicole Larsen.
Visitation of Mr. Larsen will take place on July 25 from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Higgins Funeral Home in Congers, NY. A Catholic mass in Pete’s honor will be held on July 26 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 82 Lake Road, Congers, NY from 10:00 am – 11:00 am.
All are welcome to attend the visitation and church service. Immediately following, close friends may join the family for the burial at Ascension Cemetery, 650 Saddle River Road, Airmont, NY.
