We lovingly remember Mary Theresa (Maye) Holt, 90 years old, of New City, NY who passed away on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at her home at Sunrise, New City. Born in the Bronx, New York to Mary (Gallagher) and Thomas Maye, she attended Cathedral High School in Manhattan and worked at Dunn & Bradstreet until her marriage to Charles A. Holt in 1952. They were blessed with strong faith and a devotion to each other that enabled them to provide an enduring foundation for all who knew them during their 57 years together.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of love in her children: Brian (Mary) of Suffern, NY, Kevin (Mary Kay) of Geneva, Illinois, daughter-in-law Paula of Highland Falls, NY, Joseph (Meghan) of LaGrange, Illinois, Maryanne (Daniel) Lombardo of Nanuet, NY, and Patrick (Dawn) of Pearl River, NY. She is pre-deceased by her son Terrence, her husband Charles and her sisters, Nora, Bebe and Eileen. She is survived by her sister Patricia Fitzmaurice, her devoted brother-in-law Francis Holt and sister-in-law Anne Reilly.
Mary spent half her lifetime as the beloved Nanny of her 18 grandchildren and their spouses and 12 great-grandchildren. Mary was a Home-Maker in the truest sense of the word. Her love extended beyond her immediate family to her community, her adoring extended family and the countless mothers and babies she cared for during her 30 years as a Birthright volunteer. She will always be remembered for her gentle smile, her sense of humor, her unfailing compassion and a generosity that knew no bounds.
Mary’s devotion to and delight in children was her life’s greatest work. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to Birthright of Nanuet (birthright.org/nanuet) or to the Dominican Sisters, Dominican Convent, Western Highway, Blauvelt, NY 10913, memo: House on the Hill Day Care.
Visiting hours will be held at Higgins Funeral Home, New City, N.Y. on Saturday, January 12 from 7-9pm and Sunday, January 13 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A funeral mass is scheduled for Monday, January 14 at 10am at St. Augustine’s Church, New City, NY.
