John R. McGoldrick passed away suddenly at his home on May 29, 2020. John was born January 19, 1972 to his loving parents, Thomas and Margaret (Lynch) McGoldrick in Brooklyn, New York. John's family moved to Garnerville, NY when he was an infant and he remained part of the North Rockland community for all of his life.
John married the love of his life, Michelle (Stephen) on September 22, 2001. They shared almost 19 years of marriage before John’s passing. In addition to his loving wife, John’s life was made complete by his son Thomas. John and Michelle devoted themselves to each other and to their Tommy.
John proudly became a member of the New York City Police Department and spent 20 years protecting and serving the Washington Heights community. During this time he created friendships that lasted all his life. After his retirement he went to work at Somers High School where he remained until his death.
John was well known for his kindness, selfless nature and sense of humor. He was an all around “good guy” who saw the good in all people. He loved his family and friends, and his absence will leave a tremendous void for those who knew and loved him. When he wasn’t working or hanging out with Tommy, he loved fishing and was a die hard Mets fan.
John is predeceased by his parents, and brother Thomas. He is survived by his beloved wife, Michelle, son Thomas, brother Daniel, and sisters Alice Ennis (James), Anne McGuigan (William) and Peggy Varieur (Robert), and his in-laws Ken and Diane Stephen, brother and sister in law Jeffrey and Stephanie Stephen and sister and brother in law Courtney Stephen and James Strodel. He also is survived by his adoring nieces (Traci Moscato, Meaghan Dufek-Varieur, Alexa Stephen) and nephews (William McGuigan, Bobby Varieur and Jayden Strodel) and great nieces and nephews (Ava, Brady, Eleanor and Sloane), and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
John was a member of the Haverstraw Elks and the Rockland County Shields.
