It is with profound sorrow that his family shares the passing of George E. Kelly, 76, on September 1, 2017. “I did it my way, God was very good to me, I wouldn’t change a thing. I had an exceptional life due to the love of my wife of 52 years and my children.” The son of Irish immigrants Bridget and Michael and brother to Michael. They lived in the Bronx until moving to Rockland County in the 1960’s. George, a beloved Husband, Father, and Grandfather had earned his Master of Science degree from Long Island University. He served in the US Army, He retired from the New York City Police Department after serving 20 years in 41st Precinct “Fort Apache” and retired from the 43rd Precinct in the Bronx. There has been countless citations, news articles, and Achievement of Merit written by the NYC Chief of Police in his name. After retiring as a New York City Detective he became a Fire and Fraud Investigator for an insurance company. George was a tremendous advocate for the Unborn and even ran on the Pro-Life platform in Rockland County. He was a consummate learner and avid reader always in search of new knowledge and understanding. George’s favorite past times included going fishing off the coast of Rhode Island and spending the afternoons with his wife Dorothy on the dunes of Point Judith. He leaves behind his wife Dorothy, his son George, his daughters Kathy and Colleen, son Christopher and 10 grandchildren. He will be greatly missed and his memory will live on through his stories. Services are to be held at Higgins Funeral Home on Main St., New City, Tues., Sept. 5th 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral mass at Saint Francis of Assisi in West Nyack 10 am Wed Sept 6th.
