Mrs. Dickey was born on February 23, 1931 to Frank and Grace McCann. She married James Dickey on July 3, 1954. They started a family in Brooklyn, NY. The family moved to Bardonia, NY in 1971. She worked many years as a helpful receptionist for a local doctor. Upon retirement, James and Ellen sold the family home and began their lives as snowbirds; living in both Melbourne, FL and the Hideout in Lake Ariel, PA. She recently moved to Dowling Gardens in Sparkill, where she spent her last year.
Mrs. Dickey was an avid sports enthusiast. Bowling, skiing, golf, and bocce were just a few of the sports she participated in into her 80’s. She was an accomplished dancer and a Scrabble champion. She was an enthusiastic animal lover, and they loved her too.
Mrs. Dickey is survived by her daughter Diane Rubino of Nanuet, NY, her daughter Audrey Dickey-Baisley and her husband Michael Baisley, her son, Stephen Dickey and his wife Tracy Sheridan-Dickey. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Victoria Rubino, Kevin, Andrew and Jake Dickey. She was preceded in death by her husband James Dickey.
We all know she is with her husband and they are dancing up in Heaven.
Family will receive friends at Higgins Funeral Home in New City on Thursday, September 28 from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 29 at 10am at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery in Nanuet.
