Elena Conte

Elena Conte of New City, NY, 89 years old, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2020. Elena was born on December 16, 1931, on the island of Ponza (Italy), to Anna Calisi and Aniello Curcio. She married her husband, Agostino Conte, on February 14, 1954 and had two children. In1973, together with her children Gerardo Conte and Anna Ponterosso, Elena joined her husband Agostino (who had immigrated to the US the year before) in the Bronx, NY. They lived in the Morris Avenue area where many of their "paesani" from Ponza made their home. The family moved to Cruger Avenue, Bronx a few years later, and when the grandchildren were born, they relocated to New City, NY. Her grandchildren were the apple in her eyes, what she lived for on a daily basis. She was the best grandmother anyone ever had. Elena enjoyed cooking for her family gardening, crocheting and sewing. She loved life, special events, beautiful and sparkling dresses and shoes! She loved vacations to the Island of Ponza or any outing....she was always ready to go! She enjoyed any type of shopping and would say that she only had a few things to pick up at the supermarket, but would come out with an overflowing wagon. She was generous, kind and proud of her grandchildren and their achievements.

She loved her adopted grandchildren too, Jessica and Stefania Giglio, as well as Tyler D'Amore who was like a second grandson. She loved all her grandchildren's friends that stopped in to see her. She was everyone's nonna.

Elena was very devoted to the patron saint of Ponza, Saint Silverio and the shrine located in Dover Plains, NY.

She is survived by her daughter Anna Conte (Ponterosso), her son in law, Tommaso Ponterosso, son Gerardo Conte, daughter in law, Anna Maria Curcio (Conte), and grandchildren, Agostino Conte and Elena Conte, in addition to many nieces and nephews and friends and family that loved her from all parts of the world. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Family will receive friends on January 7, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on January 8, 2021 at 10am, at St. Augustine’s Church, New City, followed by interment at Ferncliff Cemetery, 280 Secor Road, Hartsdale, NY.
