Eleanor Ann O'Brien

Eleanor Ann O'Brien, 85, of Valley Cottage, NY, formerly of West Nyack, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on November 7, 2020. She was born on September 10, 1935 to John and Catherine Beebe. Eleanor grew up in Queens, NY, lived in Plainview, Long Island before moving to Rockland County in 1967. While working at NBC, Eleanor met the love of her life Donald and soon were married where they had 57 wonderful years together including raising their 8 children. Eleanor enjoyed working nearly 20 years at the Town of Clarkstown Justice Court and Town Clerk offices in New City, NY. Her true passion in life was to help other people and was very dedicated to the Catholic Church, especially at St. Francis of Assisi in West Nyack. She participated in many ministries over the years, the founder of Reaching Out, Claire's Cove and the Women's Auxiliary. She cherished her gardening and was a gifted painter. She had a love of animals and rarely lived without one. Eleanor was an avid NY Giants fan but her greatest joys came from her family.

She is survived by her children Chebyvonne O'Brien, Donna Chirlo (Michael), Karen Dowling, Glenn O'Brien (Louise), Tara Shapiro (Ron), Bridget Olson (Chris), Heather O'Toole (Malcolm); cherished sister Eileen Sheldon, beloved brother-in-law Harold O'Brien (Roy Schafer); 16 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Deacon Don (Donald) O'Brien, daughter Shannon O'Brien, grandson James Dowling, brother John Beebe and sister-in-law Maureen Wyllie.

Friends may visit at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY on Tuesday November 10, 2020 from 5-9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 128 Parrott Rd, West Nyack, NY on November 11, 2020 at 11:30 AM with Rev. William Cosgrove officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson, CT on November 16th, 2020. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to JDF and Histiocytosis Association.
