On July 4, 2011, Retired Detective Edwin Ortiz died peacefully at home with his family, after a long battle with cancer. He was a long time resident of New Hempstead, NY and devoted parishioner of St. Boniface Church in Wesley Hills. After twenty years of dedicated service, he retired from the 40th Precinct Detectives Squad of the New York City Police Department. He will be remembered for his search and rescue efforts following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States of America. He is survived by his wife, Daisy Ortiz, daughters Jennifer, Bernadette and Marceline, son-in-laws Josse and Oscar and grandchildren Adriana, Gabriella, Aaron, and Alina. He will be waked at Higgins Funeral Home in New City, NY on Thursday and Friday, July 7th and July 8th, from 2-4 & 7-9. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Boniface Church in Wesley Hills on Saturday July 9th at 11am followed by burial at Ascension Cemetery, Airmont, NY
