Daniel J. Galligan

Daniel J. Galligan of New City, NY passed away on October 9th, 2018. He was born on July 9, 1936 in Bronx, NY to Daphne and Terence Galligan. Beloved husband to Ellen Kropp Galligan, whom he married 52 years ago on October 1, 1966. Devoted Father to four sons, Chris, Neil (Lora), Brendan (Jennifer) and Daniel (Anne).

Dan attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine HS in the Bronx where he graduated as Valedictorian of his class. Some of those classmates and friends from Fordham Road are still his best friends. He was a proud employee of IBM for 37 years.

Dan lived his life in service to others, through counseling or just friendship. His door was always open, his hand was always outstretched. He was a man of great faith, and lived his life accordingly. His impact will be felt for a long time beyond his years.

Dan’s most important role in life was that of grandfather. Pa was devoted to and adored by 8 grandchildren; Jackie, Danny, Ella, Maeve, Caleb, Luke, Rory and Quinn. They all held their own special place in his heart and he lit up when he saw them, and they him. He is probably taking pictures of them right now from heaven.

Dan is survived by his wife, four sons, 8 grandchildren, his sisters Catherine Morrissey and Mary (Jim) Power, brother Terence (Monica), as well as many nieces and nephews and the thousands of lives that he touched in his time.

A celebration of his life will be held at Higgins Funeral home in New City, NY on Saturday October 13th, 2-4 pm, 7-9pm and Sunday October 14th, 2-4pm, 7-9pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Church in West Nyack on Monday October 15th at 10am.
