Catherine Reilly Caruso, 59, of Nanuet, NY passed suddenly on June 15, 2023, in Nyack Hospital. Cathy was born to Catherine and Daniel Caruso on June 1, 1964, in the Bronx. She graduated from Preston H.S. and the Hudson Culinary Institute. She lived in Rockland for 30 years (Valley Cottage,Tappan, and recently Nanuet). She worked at Star Magazine at the news desk as a research assistant. She then moved on to work as a cook at the Cook Chill Production Center in Orangeburg for several years, before moving on to work in Environmental Services at Rockland Psychiatric Center where she was promoted to Director of Environmental Services.
Cathy was a warm-hearted, generous person known for her extraordinary work ethic, standards of excellence, and dedication to her staff, her colleagues, and above all the patients. Cathy was a kind, loving person always ready to lend a hand to a person in need. Since childhood, Cathy loved animals, especially dogs, whom she spoiled and treated like her children. She was an avid gardener who enjoyed nothing more than creating magically beautiful gardens with flowers and herbs. She loved nothing more than using those herbs to create wonderfully delicious meals and treats for her family and friends. Cathy was fun to be with.
Her sense of humor, quick wit, and high spirits was a gift to her family, friends, and colleagues. She made us laugh and brought us joy no matter how bad the circumstances. You know when someone is loved so deeply that their absence is felt as strongly as their presence. The world seems a little darker without our beloved Cathy.Cathy is survived by her sisters Maureen Caruso, Nancy Caruso, Barbara Nasser and her husband Freddie; her nephews Michael Sharif Almaani and Kevin Nasser, and her niece Elizabeth Nasser. She was predeceased by her brother Daniel E. Caruso.
The family will receive friends on Thursday June 22 from 3:00 -7:00pm at Higgins Funeral Home in New City. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday June 23,10am, at St. Anthony's Church, 36 West Nyack Rd, Nanuet, NY.
