Brian John Dwyer, Sr., of New City, NY, passed away peacefully at the age of 83 years surrounded by family on July 29, 2024. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilee Dwyer, daughter Anne Marie Cirrilla, son Brian Dwyer, Jr., grandchildren Dylan Dwyer, Anthony Cirrilla, Caitlin Dwyer, and Keenan Dwyer, and great-grandson August Brian Cirrilla, as well as many nephews, nieces and brother and sister in laws. Brian was predeceased in death by his siblings whom he dearly loved: Kenneth Dwyer, Patricia Mazza, and Kathy Fitzpatrick.
Brian was born in Far Rockaway, NY to Kenneth and Ann Dwyer on October 17, 1940. He was a man filled with the joy of people, and in response to his light he was beloved by all who knew him. Up until the end his caregivers referred to him as a treasure who touched their souls with his kindness and humor. His talents were many: accomplished church organist and pianist, singer, painter, bonsai artist, and landscape designer. He adored animals of all sorts, and the list of Brian’s pets is long and varied: dogs (especially his beloved therapy greyhound, Cleo), cats, ferrets, raccoons, rabbits, tropical fish, love birds, and of course his Koi, of which he was very proud.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 4th at Higgins Funeral Home at 321 South Main Street New City, NY from 5-9pm with a funeral mass to be held Monday, August 5th at 10am at St. Francis of Assisi parish in West Nyack, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Brian’s name to Pet Partners, formerly the Delta Society, which is renowned today as the gold standard in the field of animal-assisted interventions.
