Anne Catherine Arnold, a resident of Margate, Fl., and Pearl River, N.Y., a former proud resident of Bronx, N.Y., as well as Middletown and Nanuet, N.Y., died on Wednesday, April 18, at home. After a valiant and dignified battle with cancer, Anne took her last breath in the loving embrace of her family. She was 71. Anne was predeceased by her parents, Henry McLernon and Martha Gilmore, both of the Bronx by way of Scotland and Ireland; and by her husband, Lee Arnold. She is survived by her children, Lee (Grace Ann), Jennifer Mitru, James (Chutima Phanpho) and Christopher (Erin Winebark); by her brother, James McLernon; and by her grandchildren, Jack, Annie, Olivia, Hannah, Nicholas, Catherine, Nora, Henry, and Camryn; and by her beloved cousins, Robert Lynch and Owen Gilmartin, and many other cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors in Oriole Gardens III in Margate.
While Anne worked in retail and bookkeeping throughout her life, her main occupation and primary purpose in life was nurturing her family. Anne was committed to her family, was a devoted Mother, an adoring Grandmother and a loyal friend. She was well-known for her kindness, open heart and welcoming home, especially to family and friends in need. She rarely went anywhere without meeting someone she knew, she was active and always ready to take an excursion or go off on an adventure. She loved to laugh, have fun with friends and family, read, play mahjong and board games, and try new recipes.
There will be a viewing at Higgins Funeral Home, New City, N.Y. on Sunday from 2–4 and 7-9 pm, and Mass of Christian Burial at St. Aedan’s Church, Pearl River, N.Y., on Monday at 10am.
