Mary C. (Hoczyk) Grunwald, age 96, lifelong resident of New Britain, beloved widow of Wallace S. Grunwald, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21 at Hartford Hospital, surrounded by her family.
She was born on September 15, 1919 in New Britain to the late Michael and Catherine (Pawlina) Hoczyk.
Mary worked at The Fafnir Bearing Company before becoming a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother as her life's work, as well as a dedicated parishioner of St. Maurice Church.
Mary is survived and loved dearly by her daughter, Deborah (Grunwald) Lovallo and her husband Richard of Hebron, Jeffrey Grunwald and his wife Linda of Wallingford, grandchildren Kimberly (Grunwald) Norman and her husband Kevin, Douglas Grunwald and his wife Morgan, Karen Grunwald, Lisa Lovallo, and Dana Lovallo, and great-grandchildren Ryder Norman, Cooper Norman and Landon Grunwald, her wonderful sister-in-law Terri Diters, and her many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her sisters Helen Rogala and Betty Milewski, and brother John Hoczyk.
Mary loved watching her family in sports, musical performances and all their other endeavors, and she was an avid UConn women's basketball fan. She will be remembered for her delicious golabkis and pierogis, her sparkling blue eyes and her gracious smile that radiated love for her family.
A time of visitation will be held Monday, January 25, 2016 from 9-10:30am at the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain followed by her funeral liturgy at 11AM in St. Maurice Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, all in New Britain.
