Lydia was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico. She courageously moved her life to New York City in hopes of finding new opportunities for her success. She later met and married the love of her life, the late Alberto Luis Rivera. They moved to and settled down in Hartford, CT, where they welcomed five beautiful children.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother. Many were familiar with Lydia’s sweet care and affection. She worked in the Kinsella School cafeteria and was playfully dubbed “the candy lady” by the admiring children who knew her. Lydia was a motherly figure to many and was well-loved. On her own time, she enjoyed long nature walks, puzzles, and watching Spanish telenovelas.
Later, in life, Lydia fought a long hard battle against a rare form of Dementia known as Frontotemporal Dementia. She is preceded in death by her late husband, Alberto L Rivera and her late son Alberto "Pito" Rivera Jr. She is survived by her children, Annie Rivera, Luis Rivera, Julio Rivera & Anna Costa, 14 grandchildren, and 5 (soon to be 7) great-grandchildren.
A walk-through funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Avenue, New Britain, CT, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM.
