Josefa Aponte, age 75, of Meriden, CT passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Josefa was born March 17, 1947 in el barrio de Macun in Toa Baja, PR. Daughter to Daniel Padilla Matias and Zoila Mercado de Padilla, she came to the United States in 1972 after marrying her husband, Santos, and settled in Meriden, CT.
Josefa is survived by her sons, Edgard D. Sevilla (Tommi), Jose R. Estrada (Nayeli), and Sammy Aponte (Benita), and her loving grandchildren: Brandon Sevilla, Daniela Lynn Sevilla, Venessa D. Burris, Natasha J. Forester, Nicole E. Medina, Jose R. Estrada Jr., Daniel A. Estrada Alvarez, Ana Sofia Estrada Alvarez, Jennifer Lynn Nazario, and Adriana Lynese Aponte; and great-grandchildren: Finnley, Rowan, Logan, Paisley, Kaiya, and Cristian. She is also survived by her two brothers and sister: Cruz Antonio Padilla, Alfredo Padilla, Ada Selys Padilla.
Josefa was a dedicated and loving mom and grandmother who instilled her deep Catholic values into her family. She was a member of the Ultrella, Legion de Maria, and Cursillo at St. Rose Church. Her love of arts and crafts was celebrated by her children and grandchildren. Josefa loved to shop and take guitar lessons. She used her chanclas like a boomerang and loved to make people laugh. Above all, her family was always the most important thing to her.
She is predeceased by her husband, Santos "Tato" Aponte, her brothers and sister: Angel Manuel Padilla, Juan de la Cruz Padilla, Wilfredo Padilla, Axel Padilla, and Aida Luz Pacheco.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Rose Church, 35 Center St, Meriden on Saturday, July 9, 2022 at 10:00am. Please meet the Aponte family directly at church. Friends and family are invited to call upon Josefa's family on Friday, July 8, 2022 from 4:00-7:00pm at New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave, New Britain.
