She was born in New Britain and was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Giovanina D’Amato
Joan lived all of her years with gusto. She loved being in the center of family and friends, especially if she was able to prepare a large meal for them. She was the first generation of an Italian family in America. Her Italian heritage was very important to her and she maintained her Italian traditions.
She was an avid swimmer and loved the beach. She was one of the owners of the Quick Treat business, and then continued her employment at Anthony Rao, then Emhart/Black and Decker. She was a member of St. Ann’s Church.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Anthony and is survived by her devoted children, Robert and Muriel DeRosa and Elaine DeRosa and Bonnie Johnston .
She is also survived by a brother Arthur D’Amato and his wife, Ofelia.
She leaves her beloved grandchildren, Jenifer, Christy, April and Anthony and her great grandsons, Matthew and Ethan.
Also surviving are nieces, Debi and Lydia and nephews, Marc and Garrett and a loving cousin Maryann.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 9:00 AM at the New Britain Memorial Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave. New Britain followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10:00 AM at St. Ann Church, 101 North St. New Britain, Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday, April 13th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home, Directions, Exit 37 off I-84 take a right at the exit, funeral home is 1 1/12 miles on your right.
