Doctor Humberto Solano, 84, of West Hartford passed away on October 14, 2015 at the HOCC at New Britain General in the loving company of his immediate family. Doctor Solano leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Zosima Banos Solano of West Hartford, his daughter and professional partner, Doctor Elizabeth Solano of Avon and her four sons, Benjamin, Alexander, William & Charles, and a son, Joseph Solano of California. Doctor Humberto Solano was born in the small town of Ometepec, in the state of Guerrero in Mexico, on February 14, 1931 and had 5 brothers & sisters. During his early years, Humberto distinguished himself as an excellent student and received a scholarship to study at Holderness Preparatory School in New Hampshire. He further went on to do his undergraduate studies at Trinity College in Hartford, and a masters at Columbia University, in New York City. Subsequently he returned to Mexico to complete his medical studies and married Zosima in 1961. He was able to secure his residency at the New Britain General Hospital and returned to Connecticut with his wife and two children in 1964. Upon completion of his residency program he established his practice in New Britain in 1970 where he continued to serve the diverse communities for the next 40 years. As a native Spanish speaker he was vital support for the Latin & Italian communities of New Britain when there were few others. Doctor Humberto Solano also served the medical community as a member of the Board of Directors of the Hartford County Medical Association, of which he had been a long standing member. He subsequently then served on the Board of Education for the State of Connecticut. Doctor Humberto Solano passed away within 3 months of receiving his diagnosis of acute leukemia.
