Dee was patient, kind, gentle, thoughtful, compassionate, nurturing…and let’s not forget her sense of humor. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, nurse, and healer. A vibrant and open person, she connected deeply with everyone from her closest family to people she just met. She was an adventurous spirit who enjoyed the ocean, snorkeling, boogie boarding, and travel. Her thirst for knowledge was lifelong. She shared that her greatest joys and accomplishments were her children and being a mother, as nothing was more important to her than time with her children, grandchildren, and family.
Danielle was a powerful and highly skilled nurse-healer who dedicated her life’s work in service to others. She earned a BS and RN from Boston College and a MA in Nursing with a focus in Parent Child Health from New York University. Danielle began her career at NYU in the Pediatric Oncology Unit. She helped many women bring children into the world as a Lamaze teacher and founder of The Mothers’ Center in Northport, NY. She continued her work in Maternal Fetal Health at the Brentwood Health Clinic. She expanded her healing work as a Therapeutic Touch Practitioner, Gestalt Therapist, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Rubenfeld Synergy Somatic Practitioner, and Certified Havening Technique Practitioner. For over a decade, she shared her knowledge and experience with others as part of the founding faculty of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing.
Born and raised in New Britain CT, Danielle’s life and worldwide travels touched many hearts and minds. Dee, Linda, Nadine, Donna, and Francine—the Dwight St.Girls—grew up together in a three-family home with multi-generational descendants of Italian immigrants. In 1975, Danielle married her lifelong love John Arthur Long; a teacher, author, and theatrical director. They settled in Northport, NY where they raised their three children. Her presence, guidance, and love will be deeply missed, but the love and laughter she shared with others will live on.
Viewing, funeral service, and reception will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at New Britain Memorial & Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home in New Britain, CT with burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New Britain, CT. More detailed information on timing will be posted as soon as it is available. Due to the sudden nature of the loss, the immediate family requests not to be contacted until after Thursday’s services.
