Danny was born on January 14, 1943, to Anna and Stephen Skiba in Hartford, CT. After Danny graduated from Glastonbury High School in 1960, he joined the CT Army National Guard for six years. He later became a plumber and owner of Danny’s Plumbing and Heating. Although he eventually retired, he never stopped working and doing side jobs for friends and family.
Danny was predeceased by his son, David Daniel Skiba. He is survived by his loving wife, Celia of 57 years, his daughter and son-in-law, Carrie and Jonathan Houk, and his grandchildren, Ellie, Aidan, and Audrey Houk of Coventry. He is also survived by his sister, Lorraine Bertotti of New Port Richey, Florida, his sister and brother-in-law Marianna and Dominick Rinaldi of Vernon, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Danny was a big believer in community service. He was a member of the St. Joseph Church Men’s Club and was the carnival and raffle chair for the church for many years. Danny was also a loyal member of the Rockville Elks Lodge, having served as the Exalted Ruler and the State President of the CT Elks Association from 2009–2010. When he wasn’t busy at the lodge, volunteering at an Elks event, or doing a plumbing job, Danny enjoyed fishing, gardening, golfing, and watching the Yankees. He was a proud “Dido” to his grandkids, attending as many dance recitals, school events and hockey games as he could.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, 33 West Street, Rockville on Saturday, July 8 at 10:00 am, followed by a reception at the Rockville Elks Lodge, 9 North Park Street in Rockville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Elks National Foundation, c/o Claire Decker, Rockville Elks Lodge, 9 North Park Street, Rockville/Vernon, CT 06066.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NewBritainSagarino.com for the Skiba family.
