Shirley Jean Rogers, age 82, passed away on March 4, 2018, in New Braunfels, Texas. Shirley was born on a farm near Big Sandy, Texas, on July 30, 1935. She graduated from Flour Bluff High School near Corpus Christi in 1952 and attended Texas A&I University (which later became Texas A&M Kingsville.)
She married widower Jerry Rogers in 1954 during her third year of college. She became an immediate mother to his two daughters who were both under three years old. Jerry’s job with Exxon-Mobile moved them many times, and while she did work for about four years total, she was predominantly a homemaker. After Jerry’s retirement in 1991, they relocated to New Braunfels in 1999. Shirley was a member of First Baptist Church New Braunfels and a member of the senior adult group where she participated in the Sunshine Singers.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald (Jerry) Rogers; her parents, Vera and Elzy Pharis; her brother, Dale Pharis; and her great grandson, Deacon McNew.
She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Rogers and husband Richard Crumpton; Jeri Rogers and husband Lynn Krauss; brother Edwin Pharis and wife Ruth; grandchildren Linsey and husband Wes McNew; Andy Krauss; Whitney and husband Jason Clark; great grandchildren Poppy Krauss and Lorraine McNew; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday, March 9th from 5-7 pm at Zoeller Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held in the Pavilion at Guadalupe Valley Memorial Park on Saturday, March 10th at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that contributions be made to First Baptist Church New Braunfels.
