In Maria’s younger years, she was a well-known mixologist in Eagle Pass, Texas. She had a passion for music. Her favorite genre was ‘Ranchera’ music. Maria enjoyed dressing up, putting on her boots and makeup, and going out dancing. Once she became a grandmother, she devoted much of her time to her grandchildren, helping to raise them throughout their childhood. Until her most recent years, she took joy in taking care of animals, shopping, and going on walks. She also enjoyed being an active member of Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church in Eagle Pass, Texas. Her love of cooking brought many people joy including herself. Mexican pastries and coffee were her favorite midnight snack. She was loved till her last days and will be missed dearly.
Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Andres and Sofia Olguin; husband, Toribio Berrelez Sr.; daughter, Azalia Deleon; sister, Maria Sara Olguin; and brother, Alejandro Olguin. She is survived by son, Toribio Berrelez Jr. (Virginia); son, Rafael Deleon (Alma); and daughter, Alma Carbajal (Luis); grandson, Toribio Berrelez III; granddaughter, Amy Rios; granddaughter, Ana Mendoza; and 5 other grandchildren, with 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Sunday, September 27, 2020 at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St. New Braunfels, TX. 78130 from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm with Rosary at 6:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, September 28, 2020 at 10: 00 am at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 386 Castell Ave. New Braunfels, Texas 78130.
