Howard Ernest Collier

Howard Ernest Collier, 81, went to his heavenly home on November 24, 2023, at EdenHill Communities in New Braunfels, TX. He was born in San Antonio, TX (now Schertz) on March 1, 1942, to Ernest and Catherine (Roederer) Collier, where his father was stationed in the Air Force. He grew up in Ft. Worth and Sulphur Springs, TX. After graduating high school, he attended and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin, TX, receiving a degree in Civil Engineering. After working for Humble Oil & Refining Company (now ExxonMobil) for over 35 years in various engineering and executive management positions in Texas, California, and Louisiana, he and his wife retired and moved to their mountain home in Durango, Colorado, in 2000.

Howard adored the outdoors. His favorite activity was fishing at the camp he built on Toledo Bend Reservoir in Louisiana, where he built various structures. In Colorado, hiking, snow skiing, and golfing were his primary enjoyment. Ask him to play golf and you immediately had a partner! In winter he played occasionally in Farmington, NM, and Scottsdale, AZ. He was a life-long member of The United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sandra (Felder) Collier, and his daughter, Cindy (Collier) Hamrick and her husband, Eric Hamrick, of Tomball, TX. Also surviving are four grandchildren Lauren (Hamrick) Chernyha and her husband, Bryce, Spencer Hamrick, Preston Hamrick, Pierce Hamrick; four nieces and one nephew. Preceding him in death were his parents, his son, Charles Howard Collier, and his three sisters Thelma Bell, Vivian Harvey, Jennie McIlvain and their spouses.

Howard had some affectionate and compassionate nurses and aides at EdenHill. He also had some amazing private caregivers. They were like family to him and affectionally called him “Mr. Bear”. Thank you for your love and devotion. While challenging, “Mr. Bear’s" journey was smoother and easier because of you.

Memorial services are scheduled for Monday, December 11, 2023, at 10:30 AM in the EdenHill Communities Chapel at 631 Lakeview Blvd, New Braunfels, TX, with Sarah Currie, EdenHill Chaplain, officiating. Memorials may be given to Alzheimer’s Disease Research, P. O. Box 1950, Clarksburg, MD, 20871.
