Henry Earl Ford Sr.

Henry Earl Ford Sr. was born December 31, 1948, in Natchez, Mississippi to Dorothy Poche Ford and Ernest Edward Ford Sr. He was the fifth of 6 children born to his mother: Lucille Bradley, Eddie Lee (Sonny) Ford, Gloria Ford, Ernest Edward Ford Jr., baby sister Clifteen Elizabeth (Tiny) Washington.

His mother moved the family to New Orleans, Louisiana when he was eight years old. There he grew up attending McDonald 36 Elementary School, Carter G. Woodson Middle School, and graduated from Booker T. Washington High in 1967. He was married to the late Lynda Marie Lewis Ford. They were blessed with three children together: Henry Earl Ford Jr, Beverly R Ford, and Jacqueline G Ford. He then married Bessie D Prater. They had twin girls: Chandra D Prater and Chanda D Prater.

Henry prayed for God to send him someone to love and who in return would love him. His desire was for them to serve the Lord and to grow old together. God blessed him with Gloria D Powell Ford, who gave him all her love, took care of him during illnesses, gave him comforting words, and did so much more.

Henry enjoyed traveling and visiting with his family from the east coast to the Pacific Northwest. He especially enjoyed going to Lithonia to be with his nephew Mike who he looked on as his baby brother. Henry loved his family. As an adult he decided to accept Christ in his life. He’s been living faithfully for Him since then.

Affiliations: New Orleans Baseball, Member of the Prince Hall Masonic Temple, Local Democratic Party in New Braunfels Office Manager; Deacon, Pure Light Missionary Baptist Church New Orleans, LA; Deacon, St. Thomas Missionary Baptist Church, New Orleans, LA; Usher Oakwood Baptist Church; Founder of the New Braunfels Martin Luther King Association, where he served as Vice President.

Awards: Lifetime member of DOCC; 2015 - Democratic Party, Volunteer of the Year Award for Outstanding Dedication and Service; 2017 - New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, Inc., Significant Contribution in Race Relations Award; 2020 - Democratic Women of Comal County, Excellence in the Community Award.

Accomplishments: Henry said it took a strong storm (Hurricane Katrina) to blow him to New Braunfels where he fell in love with the city. The thing that he is most proud of is organizing the Rev Dr. Martin Luther King Jr march and ceremony here in New Braunfels.

Henry was preceded in death by his Father Ernest Sr, baby sister Clifteen (Tiny) Washington, Mother Dorothy F Washington, brothers Eddie Lee (Sonny) Ford and Ernest E Ford Jr. He is survived by his loving wife Gloria D Ford, two sisters Lucille Grinnell, Lithonia, Georgia; Gloria Williams, Las Vegas Nevada; five children: son Henry E Ford Jr, Portland Oregon; four daughters: Beverly R Ford Portland, Oregon; Jacqueline F Ketchens (Randy) New Orleans, Louisiana; Chandra D Allen (Nathan) Snellville, Georgia; Chanda D Thomas (Reginald) Atlanta, Georgia; stepdaughter Eudora Powell, Tacoma Washington; Stepson Clayton Powell, Tacoma Washington, eleven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A public viewing and visitation for Henry will be held Friday, January 7, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Zoeller Funeral Home, 615 Landa St, New Braunfels, Texas 78130. A memorial service will occur Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Oakwood Baptist Church, 2154 TX-337 Loop, New Braunfels, Texas 78130.
