Donald Charles Butler, age 88, of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away from this life on November 12, 2023. Loving family and caregivers surrounded and supported him during his final days of life. He was born on April 19, 1935, in Seguin, Texas, to Sam and Mabel (Black) Butler who preceded him in death. He attended school in Seguin and completed it in 1953. Charlie met the love of his life, Carol Williamson, during the Christmas holidays of 1958. The pair married soon after, in November 1959, and began their lives together later moving to New Braunfels, where they raised their family and spent the remainder of his life.
Charlie served honorably in the US Air Force, where he was stationed and served in Saint Albans, Vermont, for all four years of his military career (1954-1958). After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Charlie began work as a brick-mason and later became a specialized welder working at both Kelly and Randolph Air Force Bases. He enjoyed a long and successful career in civil service, retiring in 1995. He was a true master of his craft. Following his retirement, he enjoyed tinkering in the garage, feeding his beloved deer, or making one of his many personalized hunting knives and other custom works. He was an excellent craftsman throughout his life.
Charlie was a colorful character who valued family and hard work. The light he brought to the world around him and his attention-grabbing vocabulary will be missed dearly. His spiritual curiosity began in the Catholic Church as a child and carried him proudly into the New Braunfels Masonic Lodge #1109 in 1967. Later he followed his spiritual quest to Eckankar where he remained an active member until his passing.
Charlie is survived by his Wife of 63 years and their two sons (and spouses): Carol Butler, Vince (Jamie) Butler, and Keith (Kristin) Butler; five grandchildren (and spouses): Reece Butler, Zach Butler, Carly Butler (Dustin Innes), Mackenzie (Connor) Davidson, Holden (Zarred) Butler, and his great granddaughter: Sheridan Davidson. Charlie is also survived by two sisters, Rosie Moak of Seguin and Teeni (David) Johnson of San Antonio as well as his brother-in-law Jack (Connie) Williamson of New Braunfels.
The family would like to sincerely thank the caregivers at Colonial Manor and Hope Hospice for their care and support during Charlie's final days of life. In lieu of sympathy flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hope Hospice of New Braunfels.
