Carter James Shane, of New Braunfels, Texas passed away in the comfort of his home, on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at the age of 77. Carter was born on August 22, 1939, in Houston, Texas to Melba Franklin Shane and Viola Rudicil Shane. He married his loving wife, Mathilde on February 27, 1965. They recently celebrated their 52nd anniversary. They traveled together to various places across the United States, as well as Europe. Carter was an avid reader who enjoyed a variety of subjects, not limited to mathematics, physics, philosophy, current events and ancient history. He was always on a quest to expand his understanding of the world around him and to provide others with a purpose to explore and push their expectations of themselves and others. He enjoyed engaging in conversations with all those he came in contact with, as well as leaving them with something more to contemplate. He also enjoyed watching and following sports. He was a fan of football, basketball, golf and baseball. Carter would discuss with his friends his favorite teams and sports personalities, and was a big fan of Peyton Manning.
Carter was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Mathilde Shane; his son Curtis Shane and wife Adet Shane of Round Rock, TX.; his grandchildren Kyla Shane and Colton Shane of Round Rock, TX.; his sister Melba Beaubien and husband Bob Beaubien of San Antonio, TX.; his sister-in-law Jeannette Lavoie and husband George Lavoie of Omaha, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Zoeller Funeral Home in New Braunfels, TX at 11:00am.
