Arlene Lenora Murray, 91, of New Braunfels, TX passed away peacefully at the AlzCare Center on Cross Street after a lengthy illness. Arlene was the beloved wife of Colonel William R. Murray (retired) who preceded her in death in 1994.
Funeral will be Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 10:30 am at Zoeller Funeral Home, New Braunfels, Texas, with visitation 1 hour proceeding. Burial will be at Ft. Sam Houston Military Cemetery, San Antonio, Texas. Attendees are asked to wear something red, Arlene’s favorite color.
Mrs. Murray and her husband, both natives of Johnston, Iowa traveled extensively during his Army career and had lived in Japan, Germany and in many cities in the U.S. They retired to New Braunfels, Texas in 1982.
Mrs. Murray was born September 21, 1921, a daughter of Arlie V. and Nora Otto. She and William married in 1943. She is survived by their loving daughter, Elizabeth Hooper (John) of Tampa, Florida. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Betty Gandy (Harold) and Margaret Beck (Jason) both of Panora, Iowa; several nieces and nephews in California, Texas and Iowa and her cousin, by marriage, Mrs. Ruth Dawson, Des Moines, Iowa. Two brothers, Bob and Donald preceded her in death along with a niece and nephew.
Mrs. Murray was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Braunfels and was a Life Member member of the Polk City Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Polk City Iowa.
Arlene will be remembered for her fearless spirit, positive attitude, devotion to her family and sense of humor.
