Woodley Franklin “Buck” McCoy, Sr., 91, of Cove City departed this life on Thursday, October 7, 2021. He was the youngest son of the late Mark Hebrew McCoy and Willie Stroud McCoy, born December 12, 1929 in Craven County. Buck worked as a pipefitter throughout his career until his retirement and farmed his entire life. He is a member of Wintergreen FWB Church and served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America from December 2, 1954 until his Honorable Discharge on November 30, 1962. In his retirement years, he loved gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, and enjoyed life on the farm.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lucy Elizabeth Gray McCoy and his son Woodley Franklin McCoy, Jr. He is survived by his sons Romey Lyndon McCoy of Raleigh and Winfred Scott McCoy of Wilmington; four grandchildren, James Franklin McCoy (Sallie), Garrett Scott McCoy, Grant Andrew McCoy, and Maggie McCoy Mikoljczak (Chris), great grandson, Bayker Brooks Mikoljczak, and great granddaughter Savannah Christine McCoy and step great granddaughter Summer Lyann Negrete.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m Monday, October 11, at Wintergreen FWB Church, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Calvin Heath officiating. Burial will be at the Cove City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Woodley F. and Lucy G. McCoy Endowed Scholarship Fund at the University of Mount Olive, 634 Henderson Street, Mt. Olive, NC 28365.
