William John Hamilton Abey Jr.

He was born on July 14, 1931 in Trenton, New Jersey and attended local schools including Lawrenceville and Pennington Prep. He attended Franklin and Marshall College and Rutgers. Mr. Abey served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict and he was stationed on the Navy hospital ship, the Consolation from 1952 – 1954. He became a banker for New Jersey National Bank and married Barbara Leigh in 1956. After living in Pennington for 60 years, he and Barbara moved to New Bern, NC in 1992 where he enjoyed golfing, fishing and woodworking. After retirement he ran an antique business with his son Leigh.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, two sons, William J.H. Abey, III and wife Marcia Williamson, J. Leigh Abey and wife Linda Smith, five grandchildren, Allison Kimberly Abey, Daniel William Abey, James Leigh Abey, Jr., Kenneth David Abey and Haleigh Jean Abey.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, June 7, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church of New Bern.
