He is preceded in death by his parents, George W. Miller Jr. and Eileen Juliot Miller.
Wally is survived by his beloved wife of over 47 years, Gennie Miller, two daughters; Melissa Moore (William) of Greenville, NC, Amanda Miller (Rob Mobley) of Clayton, NC, brother, Gregory Miller (Terri) of TN, and grandson, Wyatt.
Wally proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. Retiring as a LTCol after 22 years of faithful service. During his service, he flew Med Vac during the Vietnam Conflict and later moving onto flying the C-130 and taking on the role of CO for the 252 and 253 Squadrons. After his military service he spent his second career with One Main Financial and retiring after 20 years as the manager of the New Bern branch.
Wally was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Havelock since 1985. He served as a lay leader and was heavily involved in many church activities. In his free time he was an avid runner, traveled with his wife, helped out on his daughter’s horse farm, worked on vehicles and loved the outdoors.
Wally will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was always first to offer help to people in need. He was an outgoing person who always had a smile on his face. Wally was a likeable person, great leader, and a kind spirit.
Visitation will be held from 2:00pm-3:00pm on Sunday, April 18, 2021 at First United Methodist Church of Havelock. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm at the church. Burial will follow in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, Newport, NC.
