Troy fought a difficult and courageous battle with cancer. With all confidence, he placed his life and trust into the hands of his Lord and Savior. He would tell anyone, “I’m not ready to go, but I know where I’m going.”
Troy was a giant of a man, not only in stature but in his incredible ability to love and live his life to the fullest.
Prior to retiring in New Bern in June, Troy taught American and World History as well as Psychology at Mattawan High School in Michigan for 31 years. 25 of those years were spent coaching Girls Varsity Basketball. He won several districts, regionals, and made it to the state semifinals. Troy’s
players won 366 games. He was awarded Coach of the Year in 2002 and 2009. He impacted the lives of hundreds of students over the years and leaves a great legacy at Mattawan High School.
He was an avid sports fan, always attending games and supporting his beloved Cubs, University of Michigan and the Rams.
Troy is survived by his self-proclaimed love of his life and wife, Robin, daughters Mackenzie (Tony) and Cara, his parents, Dan and Janet, brother Greg (Tammy) and niece and nephew Ally and Andrew. Troy leaves behind the greatest circle of life-long friends a man could ever ask for. They, as
well as extended family and former students, have been with him every step of the way as he “Fought One More Round.” Today, Troy would tell you, “Fly The W!”
Graveside service will be Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 2:00 pm at New Bern Memorial Cemetery with his Pastor, Rex Bennett, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Memorial Contributions be made to Highland Park Christian Church, c/o 405 Madam Moore’s Lane, New Bern, North Carolina 28562.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” -II Timothy 4:7
