Aunt Becky, Patrick, Patricia & family,

We send our deepest sympathy and love to you at this time, as you reflect on the life and impact that Tommy has had on those who knew and loved him.
We have fond memories of our first trip to Florida, when we stayed with you, in New Bern, over thirty years ago.
May you find peace in the presence of God, knowing that Tommy lived a full life.

It was fifty years ago that I first met Tommy through a mutual friend, Richard Flowers.  Tommy constructed a storage box for me for use in my work at NC State Univ.  He and Becky then built a house just a few doors down from where I now live.  Just a short while ago Tommy again came to my aid by routing a replacement board my fence.  He has always been a great friend with a wide smile, something Patrick inherited.  Tommy will be warmly remembered by a great many people.  An appropriate memorial to him will be our adherence to his principles of kindness to others.  Walt Erwin

The staff at the Islander Hotel & Resort sends our condolences to the Henshaw family.  Mr. and Mrs. Henshaw have been celebrating their anniversary with us for many years. Mr. Henshaw will thoroughly be missed.

I have met Mr. Henshaw a few times where I've worked - Askew's and New Bern Building Supply... but I've known Patrick very well since those days.  

While the pain of losing him is present, I pray that you all will be able to drown out the pain with the joyful happy memories of your time with him.

While my heart is broken, I am truly grateful for what I was able to learn from “Henshaw” while at Hatteras Yachts. He believed in me more than I did myself. He saw in me what I did not see. He taught me so much regarding people, work ethics, and leadership. I am grateful I can continue this knowledge he passed onto me each day of my life. You are a man amongst men.

Tommy was a good friend throughout our many years at Hatteras Yachts. He was my supervisor and mentor for a short time during a summer vacation from teaching and our friendship and mutual respect continued when I joined the Hatteras family shortly thereafter. He was a very well respected supervisor/manager and known for his vast knowledge of woodworking and the proper methods for building a boat, a cabinet or whatever he had in mind. Tommy loved and was very proud, speaking often of Patricia, who I had met, and Patrick, who I had the pleasure of teaching in 9th grade shop class. 
He also didn't talk about his kids without showing his love and respect for Becky. It was my good fortune to have been friends with Tommy.

Becky, Patrick & Patricia , You know how much Tommy meant to all of his Hatteras Family. We all have an ache in our hearts & share this burden of his passing. Tommy was more than a friend to thousands of people! Yes I am sorry for your loss , yet I am honored to have had him in my life as the best Mentor in the world. He was THE BEST at whatever he was doing & only expected an honest effort from others! When he retired, I told him “UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN”!  There are many people praying for you & your family.

What can we say?   We were very close thru the years.  In fact, bought our house lot from you and we were backyard neighbors for over 30 years.  We cherish all the stools that Tommy made for all 14 of our grandchildren.    Tommy was special to many people.  Thoughts and prayers to get you thru this difficult time.
