Stephen Boyd Foster

Stephen Boyd Foster, age 79, of Newport, North Carolina passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

Steve was born to James and Hazel Foster in Spartanburg, South Carolina on September 22, 1944. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1964 where he proudly served his country in Vietnam, Japan, Italy, and the United States for 30 years. He earned the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant and received many awards for his service. In high school he played football which led him to play for the Marine Corps in Europe.

He loved the outdoors, especially fishing with his friends on lakes and rivers across North Carolina. During his time in Okinawa he became an avid scuba diver. Always a football fan, he faithfully supported his beloved Clemson Tigers and Miami Dolphins.

For many years Steve and his family resided in New Bern, North Carolina where he was a member of Community Baptist Church of Newport. He now resides with his Lord and savior Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sophie Foster; son, Erik Simon; daughters, Ashley Foster (Michael Farrell); Jackie Smith (Rex Smith) and Angela Jezowski; brother, Jim Foster (Ann); grandchildren, Zoey, MJ, Jay, Sammy, Callie, and Gabbi; great grandchildren, Charlie, Layla, Ford, and Caleb.

A visitation for Mr. Foster will be held Sunday, June 30, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Cotten Funeral Home of New Bern. Funeral service will take place on Monday July 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Cotten Funeral Home followed by burial at Greenleaf Memorial Park where he will be laid to rest with Military Honors.
