Ray was an amazing son, brother, husband, father, uncle, papa, and friend. He was always willing to help anyone he came across; his kindness knew no bounds.
Ray was an outdoorsman. He was happiest spending time fishing on the river or hunting in the woods. He enjoyed going on hunting trips with his brothers and taking his grandkids fishing and hunting on the weekends. When he wasn’t outdoors, he was usually found hosting a game night with friends and family. Ray enjoyed all card games, but his favorite was poker. He also had a love for western films.
Ray spent his professional career working in steelwork, specializing in welding. He worked 10 years for New Bern Shipyard and later spent three years working for a California Shipyard. Later Ray worked as a machine operator at Bosch for 15 years where he retired with disability. After retiring at Bosch, he owned a small engine repair shop out of his home.
Ray will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may no longer be with us, his legacy of kindness, generosity, and outdoor adventures will live on in the hearts and memories of those he touched.
Ray leaves behind his daughter Donna New (Jeff), brothers Howard Wood (Jamie), and Rudolph Wood, grandchildren William Walker, Consuela Agayoff (Danny), Kimberly Whitfield (Ryan), Amanda Whitford (David), Rebecca Simpson, Elizabeth Wood, Samantha Wiesner (David), great grandchildren (6 boys) (3 girls), and many nieces and nephews.
