Treasured mother and adored grandmother Peggie Thompson Wooten passed away peacefully on Monday, June 19, 2023, to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born August 8, 1932, in Ayden, NC to the late Samuel E. and Ruby Tripp Thompson. On June 9, 1951, she married Buck Wooten, her high school sweetheart and the love of her life. They were married for sixty-five years, until Buck's death in November 2016. Together they were blessed with three daughters, and eventually their family grew with grandchildren and great grandchildren that brought them much happiness.
A long-time resident of New Bern, Peggie was a certified gemologist, working for more than forty-five years in downtown New Bern, first at the Jewel Box and then at Baxter's Jewelry Store. She loved working with so many of her loyal customers and considered them her friends.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in New Bern. Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, who will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Peggie was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Pansy Young, and her brother, Clifton.

She is survived by her daughters, Sandy Franks (Jesse) of New Bern, Susan Robinson (Tim) of Raleigh, and Sharon Ward (Richard of New Bern; her beloved grandchildren, Christopher Riggs (Alisha), Cody Franks (Laura), Stephen Robinson (Sheridan), Tracie Brown (Jason), Summer Bohm (David), Bryan Robinson (Jamie), Shelly Whitehead (Corey), Sharon Elizabeth Ward, and Catherine Ward; and her precious eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her dear friend, Barbara Love, who supported and loved her through her years of declining health.
A private graveside memorial service will be held at a later date.
