Mary "Elly"" Eleanor MacCabe

• Mary Eleanor "Elly" MacCabe, nee Hehir, ageless, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2018. Elly never let you forget that she was born in Providence, Rhode Island, and lived her life there and in New York City, New Jersey, Illinois and in her beloved New Bern. She is survived by her four children, Edward (Alyson), LeeAnn, Thomas, and Robert, cherished grandchildren Sean and Alana, and her canine companion Heidi. Elly was preceded in death by her husband Edward and son Peter. Elly served as a nurse in the US Navy, where she met her husband Edward, to whom she was married for 54 years. She remained active her entire life, playing tennis and golf, enjoying the beach, her book club, Saturday lunch group, being one of the original volunteers at Merci Clinic, and tutoring at Bangert Elementary School. Elly's life was full of optimism, and if you knew her you know that there was no one quite like her. She will be deeply missed by family and friends. As she would say, "Goodbye for now darlings." In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Merci Clinic. A reception celebrating Elly's life will be held on her birthday, June 7.
