Marvin Lee Raines Jr.

Marvin was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, as well as a friend to many. He was an avid sportsman, traveling the world with his sons on hunting trips, lifetime member of the NRA, defender of the 2nd amendment, and active Harley rider.

Marvin was born & raised in New Bern and graduated from New Bern High School. He went on to attend Mt. Olive College, and then graduated from Barten College.

He is a cofounder of Zaytoun-Raines Real Estate and Zaytoun-Raines Construction. He was an active member of the board of Realtors, former Realtor of the year, and former Global Trans Park representative for Craven County.

Marvin was long time Shriner, and Mason. He actively served his community as a board member and former chairman of the New Bern Chamber of Commerce, member and former chairman of the board of trustees for CarolinaEast, Swiss Bear Downtown Development Corporation, Mt. Olive College, and also as former chairman of Craven Community College. Marvin served as vice chairman of Military Growth Task Force & was an active member of New Bern Military Alliance.

Marvin is preceded in death by his father, Marvin Lee Raines Sr. and his mother Dorothy Thomas Raines Daniels.

He is survived by his wife Karen McCotter Raines; sons, Michael Graham Raines of New Bern, and Mathew McCotter Raines of Charleston, SC; Brother, Thomas Ashley Daniels and wife Kim of New Bern; and one grandson, Mitchell McCotter Raines of New Bern.

Marvin was a doting grandfather, proud father, loving husband, and loyal friend. He will be missed dearly.

Funeral services will be held at Cotten Funeral Home, Monday, June 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
