Joanne Smith Ipock

Joanne "Sister" Smith Ipock, age 84, of Cove City, North Carolina passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022. Joanne was born on December 16, 1937 in Lenoir County, North Carolina to the late Glennie Earl Smith and Annie Lee Humphrey Smith.

Joanne never met a stranger. She had a sweet spirit, genuine care for the welfare of others, kind hearted, straightforward, and loving. She was an avid animal lover, especially dogs. While Donald was in the Navy she enjoyed traveling all over the world, from Okinawa, to Hong Kong to Puerto Rico. Joanne loved the Lord and thought the world of her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the apple of her eye. Most of all she cherished her marriage to Donald and exemplified true love.

She is predeceased by her sisters, Dale Yvonne Smith and Elaine Smith Byrd and brother in law, Richard "Dick" Byrd.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Donald H. Ipock, two daughters, Krystal Joanne Ipock and Kelly Leigh Ipock, two grandchildren, John Charles Elson and his wife, Jennifer and Tyler Glenn Toohey and his wife, Stevie, two great grandchildren, Hannah Elizabeth and Hayden Samuel, brother, Currie Lyndell Smith and his wife, Margaret, and sister, Emma Jane Smith.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of ICU West at CarolinaEast for their compassion and care for Joanne.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 22, 2022 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cotten Funeral Home, 2201 Neuse Blvd, New Bern, North Carolina 28560. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM, at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Robert Josey officiating. She will be laid to rest following the service at Greenleaf Memorial Park Cemetery, 900 River Road, New Bern, North Carolina 28562.
