He was born on December 11, 1941 in Wallace, NC to Ed and Grace Wilson. He attended Wallace-Rose Hill High School. Holmes moved to New Bern to help open the original Weyerhaeuser pulp mill in 1969. He and his wife Judy later opened Ann Lynn's Ladies Wear. They owned and operated the business for over 48 years.
His life pleasure was his work and his family. "Poppy" always kept a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, whom he adored. He was also a long time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and loved working with Carpenters for Christ. Holmes always enjoyed his mornings with his breakfast buddies.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ed and Grace Wilson, grandson Ryan Wilson, brother Charles Wilson, sisters Judy Rivenbark and Faye Giddens.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Judy Wilson; sons Kenneth Wilson (Billie) of Ringgold, GA, Fred Wilson of New Bern, NC daughter Sandi Gilgo (Kip) of New Bern, NC, sister Elsie Stokley of Greensboro, NC, and nine grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 PM on Friday, July 16, 2021 at Tabernacle Baptist Church. The Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 PM. The burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
